Identity. While
The Confession is the fourteenth novel in a series featuring Scotland Yard Inspector Ian Rutledge by Charles Todd and his mother, Caroline Todd, it was my first. I was hooked. The protagonist is well-drawn, the plot required my mental engagement, and the setting in post-World War I England seemed atmospheric. The puzzle in this case involves identity, and Rutledge proceeds with diligence and sensitivity to get to the bottom of things. Readers who like crime fiction are those most likely to enjoy this one.
Rating: Four-star (Highly Recommended)
