Widowmaker
Taut. I found that the seventh novel by Paul Doirion to feature Maine warden Mike Bowditch titled, Widowmaker, was paced a bit slower than the previous books. That rhythm was fine with me. Mike is drawn into searching for a missing person for personal reasons that involve unresolved issues from his past. The past is never too far removed from his thoughts in the present. The Maine woods carry a lot of secrets, and Mike remains emotionally taut throughout this novel dealing with one thing after another. He and Stacey are also under stress and tension in their relationship. His job, as always, brings challenges. Fans of crime fiction are those most likely to enjoy this novel.
Rating: Four-star (I like it)
