Observant. I’ve read many of Zadie Smith’s essays and reviews in the past, and when I completed her new collection titled,
Feel Free, I realized what great range and variety of skills this fine writer exhibits. Her observation skills inform finely crafted sentences when she writes as a critic or reviewer. She is a close reader of the works of others, and her insights are both informed and interesting. Her perspectives on any number of topics brought me pleasure, even when I realized that I had read an essay before.
