Labyrinth. For an imaginative escape from your own reality, consider reading Susanna Clarke’s novel titled, Piranesi. Most of the novel is set in an alternative world, a labyrinth with what seems like unending rooms full of beauty where tidewater ebbs and flows. Protagonist Piranesi explores this world and learns the rhythms of life. For a while Piranesi seems to be alone, but after the “Other” appears, things get even more interesting. It will take a while for many readers to become acclimated to Clarke’s prose, but patience pays off for those who enjoy a complicated structure and lots of levels of meaning.
