Commission. I relaxed into the flow of Mathias Énard’s novel titled,
Tell Them of Battles, Kings, and Elephants, in which he describes the time that Michelangelo Buonarotti spent in Constantinople designing a bridge for the Sultan that would cross the Golden Horn. This novel is an homage to art and to the artist, and while I read the lyrical English translation, I can only assume that in French the poetry must soar. This is a short and quirky novel which draws from some historical fragments.
Rating: Four-star (I like it)
