Gripping. Investigative journalist Evan Ratliff tells the story of criminal genius Paul Calder Le Roux in a book titled,
The Mastermind: Drugs. Empire. Murder. Betrayal.. Were this fiction, I would have stopped reading after a few pages. Instead, knowing that the story is true, I was engrossed from beginning to end in a tale of terror and chaos. Le Roux’s crimes helped fuel our American opioid crisis, and the book describes how that happened using doctors and pharmacies who were ensnared by Le Roux. The pages flew by as I read Ratliff’s finely written account of a global criminal enterprise.
