Aging. The latest Gabriel Allon novel by Daniel Silva titled, The Heist, proceeds at a slower pace than earlier novels in this series. The Israeli superspy and art restorer is getting older, he’s about to become the father of twins, and he has agreed to become the next head of the Office. The chance to recover a missing Caravaggio masterpiece leads Allon to take a break from restoring a Veronese in Venice. The break returns him to Corsica and Israel and then to a bank in Austria. For loyal readers of the series, this installment continues to develop the complexity of the character of Gabriel Allon.
