A Gambler's Anatomy
Abilities. If you’ve never met a professional backgammon player, Jonathan Lethem is pleased to remedy that situation in his novel titled, A Gambler’s Anatomy. Protagonist Bruno Alexander has great abilities at backgammon, perhaps psychic abilities, that have served him well for years. When his sight fails him because of the presence of what he perceives as a blot, he wins fewer games. Bruno lives behind a mask, and Lethem uses this novel to describe much of the weirdness of our human condition. I was entertained by Lethem’s fine writing, and found the novel odd and enjoyable.
Rating: Four-star (I like it)
