Paul joins his cousin, Chloe, at a rented house in the French countryside where he intends to work on writing a cookbook. Once settled into the local community, all thought of writing disappears, as Paul does all he can to help turnaround a restaurant and a village. As always with Smith, the theme is upbeat. Characters are finding themselves, and there is a leap toward redemption that will make all readers feel good about themselves, their neighbors, and human nature overall.
