Swimming in the Dark
Choices. In his debut novel titled, Swimming in the Dark, Tomasz Jedrowski brings readers to 1980s Poland and into the lives of two young men who fall in love as they spend time together in the countryside after attending a summer agricultural camp. Ludwik and Janusz choose different paths when they return to Warsaw. One does what is expected to rise in the Communist party, and the other protests against the government. The story is compelling, the writing somewhat melancholy, and the situation relatable for many people around the world who search for both love and freedom.
Rating: Four-star (I like it)
