While she works as a deep-sea diver, Solvig has a larger ambition: she wants to be among the first people to colonize Mars. Her partner, James, wants to have a child with Solvig. Mackintosh allows the competing demands of ambition and obligation fight it out as Solvig, like many women before her, have to make life-changing choices. The prose is well-written, the characters interesting, and the revelation of human behavior insightful.
