While tension remains taut, especially during Kira’s captivity, our impressions of different characters change as we learn more, including delightful surprises that open our eyes. By the time the novel comes close to an ending, most readers will be unsure exactly how things will turn out. They do resolve, of course, to this reader’s great satisfaction.
