Doctor. Kaite Welsh’s debut novel titled,
The Wages of Sin, introduces readers to a great protagonist, Sarah Gilchrist, a medical student in Edinburgh in the 1890s. This novel will appeal to readers who love character-based descriptive historical fiction. Sarah faces the obstacles that women of her time encountered especially at a medical school that “welcomed” her in its first coed class in 1892. Many readers will want Welsh to reprise Sarah in future novels.
